FAQ
The USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map is the standard by which gardeners and growers can determine which plants are most likely to thrive at a location. The map is based on the average annual minimum winter temperature, divided into 10-degree F zones. Find your location on the map, and refer to the corresponding colorized zone labels on the right hand side. While apple trees can grow anywhere from Zone 3-9, depending upon the variety and cold hardiness, zones 4-7 are most ideal for Johnny Appleseed Authentic apple trees. It is not recommended to plant our trees in zones colder than zone 4, or hotter than zone 7. Any trees sold outside of zones 4-7 are outside of our warranty. Please refer to the map to find your USDA plant hardiness zone.
Bare root trees are dug from the ground while dormant (typically January-April each year) and delivered without soil around the root structure of the tree. Container trees are delivered potted with soil, and are available all year long. Instructions for planting each type of tree are included in the packaging.
Chill Hours (sometimes called Chill Units) are an approximation of how many hours of weather between 32 degrees and 45 degrees (F) a plant requires to properly go dormant so it can wake up and blossom and/or set fruit. The Johnny Appleseed Authentic apple tree requires 800 chill hours to fruit.
If you have found that we cannot ship to your state, it is most likely for agricultural certification reasons, or because your state is fully within a zone that is too cold or too warm for the trees to grow.
Our trees are grown and shipped from Monticello, Florida.
If your order contains only potted plants, it will ship within 5-7 business days unless you have noted a specific date during the checkout process. If your order contains bare root trees, it will ship in the order it was received after the harvest date (generally late December or early January) unless a hold or requested ship date is noted at checkout.
You will receive a tracking email upon shipment of your Johnny Appleseed Authentic purchase. Delivery time cannot be guaranteed. If a package needs to arrive prior to a specific date, or at a more convenient time for you, please note that upon placement of your order. Orders over $100 will qualify for free shipping* and orders under that amount are calculated based on order total.
Johnny Appleseed Authentic uses the highest quality packaging materials available to ensure your plant arrives safe and healthy. It is extremely rare that packages are broken or damaged in transit.
